Project Description:

'The White Quadrangle' comprised a series of performances, interventions from January 2005 culminating in a large-scale, site specific performance, installation event on 17 March in the UCC Quadrangle by the performance production company half/angel. 'The White Quadrangle' spectacle engaged literally and poetically with the architecture of the central quadrangle at University College Cork, while also using the site as a barometer of the city. 'The White Quadrangle' performed this geography of contradiction by working with 200 performers from the university and from groups across the city.

Imagine…
A thousand white paper windmills placed in the grass of the quadrangle, their movement mingling memorial and frivolity. Sudden gusts of sound open every window in the quad, and out fly paper aeroplanes. University lecturers perform choreographed papers, whilst a gaggle of old men march into the quadrangle pushing buggies. Hefts of singing descend from the clock tower, to be picked up by running giggling children. Images appear on the entire North face of the quadrangle. Oham script finds its way into choreography of the contemporary. Listen. It rains, and so the audience pulls blankets over their knees, sips tea from flasks under umbrellas. The performers bring out their white pods, and meet the March weather with a twinkle...
