Project Description:
Conceived by Cork’s site-specific theatre company Corcadorca, Relocation was one of the most spectacular moments of theatre ever produced in Ireland. It encapsulated the clear vision that has been driven by Corcadorca since its inception in 1991, a trenchant belief that theatre as an art form should exist outside of traditional venues. In Relocation, the European Capital of Culture itself, became that flexible and magical contemporary venue.
Cork's Corcadorca forged an alliance with three other European companies to produce a summer season of off-site performances in unusual and historical sites in the heart of Cork. Corcadorca transformed the streets and quays with ‘The Merchant of Venice’, Compagnie Jo Bithume from France combined circus and symphony in ‘Victor Frankenstein’ in the city centre, Grid Iron of Scotland, inspired by Cork's culinary culture performed ‘Devil's Larder’, while the Polish Teatr Biuro Podrozy reinvented the Elizabethan Fort on Barrack Street for ‘What Bloodied Man is That?’
