Date: 20 – 25 May 2005
Venue: Elizabethan Fort, Barrack Street
Project Description:
Based on the novel by Jim Crace, adapted and directed for Grid iron by Ben Harrison with music performed and composed by David Paul Jones, ‘The Devil's Larder’ guided the audience through the dark underbelly of culinary desire in an intimate promenade deep within the old city morgue.
With a company of six outstanding actors drawn from Grid Iron’s regular collaborators with guest artists from Ireland, the production wound a sinuous and treacherous path from narrative episodes to story-telling and from installation work to song. The composer and singer David Paul Jones provided a rich live score, elaborating on the themes of the original work.
The production was a huge success and went on to win four major awards in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
