Project Description:
Energetic, athletic, brilliant and committed, ‘La Dona Manca o Barbi- Superestar (The Maimed Woman)’ was a radical exploration of feminine stereotypes and mythology that was a major critical hit when it opened at the Teatro Nacional de Catalunya (TNC) in Barcelona. The first international production for Cork 2005, ‘La Dona Manca o Barbi-Superestar’, it ran for three nights at the Cork Opera House.
Choreographed by Sol Picó, one of Europe's leading choreographers, this often blackly comic production combined music, technology and theatricality to provoke its audiences. This new, full company production explored the different perceptions of women and contained many of the hallmarks of the award-winning Spanish choreographer’s work. In the performance, beauty and vulnerability – two qualities historically attributed to women – clashed with the more vigorous, energetic and confrontational features of women in real life.
During her time in Cork Sol Picó led a number of workshops and masterclasses for dancers in collaboration with Crux Dance Company and icd/Firkan Crane.
A co-production of Teatro Nacional de Catalunya (TNC) and Sol Picó, presented by Richard Wakely.
