Date: 6 - 8 May 2005
Venue: The Marsh Road, Skibbereen, Co. Cork
Project Description:
Representatives of five leading road bowling nations competed at this prestigious event which combined top class international competition with one of Europe’s oldest sporting traditions.
Road bowling is one of Ireland’s oldest traditional sports. It is played on public roads using a 28 ounce cast-iron bowl. The rules of the game are similar to golf in that the objective is to get from the starting line to the finishing line in the least number of throws. It is part of a very ancient European sporting tradition of related bowling games.
This was a thrilling competition on one of West Cork's most famous courses, the Marsh Road, Skibbereen
