Date: 4 June 2005
Venue: Crosshaven to Shandon Boat Club

Project Description:
One of the summer highlights of Cork 2005, the first Ocean to City race was Ireland's largest and most participatory rowing race. The event saw over 300 traditional coastal rowing/paddling boats, from Bantry Bay Longboats to Dragon Boats, compete in a race covering 15 nautical miles, which began in Crosshaven and finished in Cork’s city quays.

Entertainment took place along the race route, from Crosshaven to the quays of Cork, as the people of the city and county cheered on competitors.

The race is being organised by Meitheal Mara, the Cork based traditional boat builders, with the support of Cork 2005 Official Partner AIB. This inaugural race was such a success that it is to become an annual event.
