The Liam McCarthy Exhibition
Date: 8 - 30 June 2005
Venue: Cork Public Museum, Fitzgerald Park
The Liam McCarthy Exhibition was on loan from the Croke Park GAA Museum and included the original Liam McCarthy Cup, first competed for in 1923. It explored the life and times of the McCarthy family in London and Liam's involvement in the establishment of the GAA in Cork city.
McCarthy's political involvement in Ireland and Britain at the beginning of the 20th centaury was also chronicled and the exhibition included correspondence from both Michael Collins and Patrick Pearse. A large number of artefacts were loaned to the exhibition by Michael McCarthy, great grandson of Liam, and included the original cheque dated 27 May 1920 for the purchase of the cup and the All-Ireland wining hurleys and medals from Jack Lynch and Christy Ring.
