Making and Unmaking

Project Partner:
Maud Cotter & Andrew Lane

Project Description:
There has been a trend in many European cities to push the smaller commercial activities away from key streets; to push cars away and unwanted people, so that cities are left with a commercial detritus of external, semi-covered or totally enclosed shopping malls.

For Cork 2005 research project, Maud Cotter and Andrew Lane worked in consultation with street traders to produce a new asset for Cork’s famous Coal Quay; a simple and exquisite design for the outdoor trading stall. This design honours the historic usage, the generational inheritance and absence of high level interference in the dynamic street life of a city.
