Date: January – October 2005
Project Description:
The Catholic Guides of Ireland (CGI) devised a special programme of challenges for all its members in Cork, based on the Capital of Culture year. CGI took the Cork 2005 theme that 'vibrant culture is a matter of doing, creating and understanding' and expanded on this theme for everyone from the five year old cygnet right up to the leader. The girls worked on challenges throughout the year based on doing, creating and understanding and received awards at a ceremony in City Hall in October 2005.
The challenges offered a choice of activities for the girls to undertake in the Cork 2005 programme activities; making a collage of the Cork Coat of Arms; making a futuristic Cork costume for the guides; learning about Cork's landmarks and researching Cork's literary sites. Each child and leader had a special log book to record their challenge.
