Cork 2005 Credit Union Residencies Programme

Project Partner:
Cork Chapter of Credit Unions, Cork City Council, Cork County Council, Create, Arts Council
Project Description:
Credit Unions throughout Cork city and county came together with Cork 2005 to create a unique residencies programme where artists across a range of disciplines worked with local communities to create a necklace of exhibitions, performances and plays throughout the city and county.
The residencies covered a wide range of art-forms from Irish language poetry to print making, script writing to sculpture, story telling to street theatre and from dance to music. Ten of the residencies were based within the city centre and boundaries, including Knocknaheeny, Farranree, Togher, Glen and Churchfield. The Programme also included community groups in Macroom, Midleton, Bantry, Kinsale, Ballincollig, Bandon, Michelstown, Clonakilty, Skerkin Island and Cape Clear.
A diverse range of community groups including school children, trade union members, youth groups, asylum seekers, senior citizens, a GAA Club and local community centres work on the projects with their chosen artist.
This was a comprehensive, confident and groundbreaking community response to the European Capital of Culture. Managed by CREATE, who manage the Arts
Council's Artist in the Community Scheme, the project celebrated the 'makers' of culture, both community and professional arts practitioner.
