Ceramic Workshops

Project Partner:
Lorigan Ceramics Workshops
Workshop 1
Date: 25 January – 31 March 2005
Workshop 2
Date: 1 March – 30 June 2005
Project Description:
One of Ireland's most exciting ceramic artists, Cavan-born Hugh Lorigan who has made his home in Cork, organised a major community-based art intervention which began in 2004 in Cork's historic Shandon area.
The workshops, open to those living and working in Shandon, gave participants hands-on experience of ceramic work, including Raku and unfired clay brick. Using the exciting and engaging method, Raku, participants created a series of ceramic pieces from unfired clay bricks and created smaller ceramic pieces.
It is intended that the works will become part of the fabric of Shandon’s regeneration when they are subtly embedded in walls, pavements and buildings in the area.
The workshops proved to be very popular and an extra series of workshops was facilitated in response to interest in the project.
