Venue: Cork Caucus Centre, Evergreen Street
Project Description:
EXIT Cork was a project by Liverpool-based group Static (Becky Shaw and Paul Sullivan), which aimed to provide every graduating fine art student in Cork with reviews of their final degree show. It took into account the difficulties art students encounter as they move from art school to life beyond college.
EXIT Cork attempted to force reality on art students by exposing their work to scrutiny and public evaluation, in the hope of compressing their learning about how they want to practice and to recognise how their work may be constructed in the public realm through the words and opinions of others.
EXIT Cork was also an attempt to accelerate the usual pecking order of who gets reviewed and has access to systems of visibility. The outcome of the reviews was publicly launched towards the end of Cork Caucus, and a discussion seeking out themes emerging from the reviews took place chaired by Static.
