Project Description:
‘Courage to Refuse’ was a collaborative project by Shane Cullen, John Buckley, David Crawforth and the Courage to Refuse group. It was based on the Combatant's Letter; an expression of a group of Israeli soldiers' (known as Refuseniks), refusal to co-operate with what they feel is an untenable situation in Palestine. This project built on the artist's interest in the use of art to question, probe and communicate complex political issues. This commission involved a public discussion, allowing people the chance to explore the representation, interpretation and development of the Courage to Refuse Manifesto.

Cullen is probably best known for his major project, The Agreement, a three-dimensional rendering of the 1998 Good Friday agreement.
