Nilima Sheikh in Ireland
Date: 8 - 25 September 2005
Margaret Fitzgibbon and Una Quigley in India
Date: January 2005
Nilima Sheikh spent a week in Dublin at the Chester Beatty Library where she worked with its original miniature paintings. In Cork, she engaged with the artists in the Collective and gave a presentation on Indian miniature painting and her work. Nilima's work, which was developed in response to the Chester Beatty collection and her residency in Cork, was exhibited in the ‘Terminal’ exhibition in November.
Sheikh's residency at the Collective was curated by Suman Gopinath and was part of an exchange programme with CAC artists Una Quigley and Margaret Fitzgibbon who were on residency in India in January 2005.
The Fitzgibbon and Quigley residency in India was co-ordinated by Indian curator Suman Gopinath, who in collaboration with the artists, invited Nilima Sheikh on residency to Cork.
Gopinath also visited Cork in September 2005 to co-ordinate the collaboration between Sheikh and the Indian miniature collection of the Chester Beatty museum.
Fitzgibbon and Quigley's project was supported by Cork 2005, Culture Ireland and the Arts Council of Ireland.
