Project Description:
Cumann Náisiúnta na gCór/Association of Irish Choirs (CNC) is the Cork-based national organisation, funded by the Arts Council, which supports and promotes choral music throughout the island of Ireland. For 2005 CNC presented a celebration of architecture and associated musical traditions in four of the most prominent churches in Cork.
Cork's celebrated choral tradition was honoured in a series of four choral days. The choral repertory chosen for each day will reflect the sacred music of the era in which the church was built. Conducted by some of the finest national and international choral directors, these events attracted local, regional, national and international choristers of all ages working together, through intensive rehearsal, to share with the people of Cork the experience of great liturgical music sung in its intended sacred setting.
