During a weekend residency, the Ulster Orchestra performed three very different and enchanting concerts in the European Capital of Culture. This was their first time performing in Cork since October 1995.
‘The Harp Concert’, featured the unusual combination of four harp soloists performing three harp concertos. This concert was presented as part of the Ninth World Harp Congress, which was hosted by Ireland in 2005.
Young and old came along on the family-friendly musical adventure,‘The Cork Pirate Party’. Most of the children in the audience got into the spirit of things and dressed up in pirate gear for a programme of nautical favourites.
The residency came to end on the Sunday when more than 70 invited students from the Cork Youth Orchestra rehearsed and performed with the orchestra in ‘Come and Play’ – an incredible opportunity for young musicians to learn alongside professional musicians.
The residency of the Ulster Orchestra in Cork was made possible by the support of The Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure Northern Ireland, the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and Belfast City Council. The Ulster Orchestra residency was also part of the Lagan to the Lee Cultural Partnership between Belfast and Cork City Councils. Supported by the Department of Arts, Culture and Leisure of Northern Ireland.
