This was the fourth and final part of the Music Migrations concert series which celebrated the Irish Voice from the traditional to the contemporary.

‘Irish Voices’ began with ‘Other Voices’, celebrating the thriving contemporary music scene in Ireland today and based on the RTÉ series which has established a platform for many rising artists. This opening gig Simple Kidfeatured three of Ireland’s finest bands: Republic of Loose, Simple Kid and Fred.

Irish music has traveled the world in the heads, hands and feet of Irish emigrants. ‘Paddy In The Smoke’ was a unique evening of music featuring the voice of Irish traditional music as developed in the cities of England, and brought to Cork a unique collection of Irish musicians born in England.

Multi-instrumentalist, soloist, arranger, composer and producer, Donal Lunny, has been at the centre of all major musical developments in Irish music in the last four decades was joined by Róisín Elsafty, Máirtín O’Connor and Andy Irvine in an evening that celebrated a life in music of this unique man. Support was provided by Sean-nós singer Iarla Ó Lionáird and band playing music from his recent release ‘Invisible Fields’.

Sponsored by Blackpool Shopping Centre and Blackpool Retail Park, Music Migrations then travelled North of the River when Four Star Trio performed at Blackpool Shopping Centre. Also North of the River, Michael McGoldrick [flute, pipes], Dezi Donnelly [fiddle] and JohnJo Kelly [bodhrán] raised the roof at Farranree Community Centre incorporating their alternative sounds into traditional music.

The powerful mix of talent resulted in a climactic end to the Cork 2005 Music Migrations series.
