Project Description:
The Festival of Youth Orchestras was one of the first activities to be undertaken by IAYO, on its formation in 1996. Reaching its tenth birthday in 2005, the Festival has been supported by PENNEYS its inauguration, and has to date given seventy youth orchestras (over four thousand young players!) the opportunity to perform in the National Concert Hall in Dublin.

The Festival was held outside of Dublin for the first time in 2005, when it moved to City Hall, Cork to mark the celebrations of Cork 2005: European Capital of Culture. These two concerts showcased orchestras from all around Ireland. The Pennys' Orchestra Achievement Awards were also presented at the 8pm concert.
