Project Description:
Adopted in Florence, Italy, on 20 October 2000 and in force since 1 March 2004, the European Landscape Convention aims to promote the protection, management and planning of European landscapes and to organise European co-operation on landscape issues. It is the first international treaty to be exclusively concerned with the protection, management and enhancement of the European landscape. The Convention applies to the Parties’ entire territory and covers natural, rural, urban and peri-urban areas. It deals with ordinary and degraded landscapes as well as those of outstanding beauty.

The Convention represents an important contribution to the implementation of the Council of Europe’s objectives, aimed at promoting democracy, human rights and the rule of law and at finding common solutions to the main problems facing European society today. By taking into account the cultural and natural values of landscape, the Council of Europe seeks to protect the quality of life and well-being of Europeans.
The Third meeting of the Workshops for the Implementation of the European Landscape Convention took place in Cork.  Attendance at workshops is by invitation only.

Associated Public Events included an exhibition, public lectures and an open public forum.
