The ’05 Commission

Project Description:
Everyman Palace Theatre in association with Cork 2005 publicly invited ideas to be submitted for a new play for 2005. After a lengthy process of reading, short listing and interviews, the chosen writer was Dubliner, Bryan Delaney.

His first play, ‘The Cobbler’, which premiered at the Irish Classical Theatre Company in Buffalo, New York, in March 2005, was selected from over 500 entries from around the world as joint winner of the 16th International Playwriting Competition organised by The Warehouse Theatre in London in 2001. His second work for the stage, a one-act play entitled ‘A New Suit’, was joint winner of Fishamble Theatre Company's short play competition in 2002. It was produced at Project Arts Centre, Dublin in May 2003 as part of Shorts – Fishamble's season of new short plays.
