Project Description:
A gathering of commercial, naval and pleasure craft celebrated the maritime history and culture of Cork City and its harbour, hosted by the Port of Cork. Quite apart from the colour of the berthed vessels, a series of land-based events including lunchtime concerts by bands of the visiting services was organised for the city centre.

The end of May saw the arrival of the Finnish and Swedish vessels. Their visit coincided with a maritime event organised in conjunction with RCYC, when approximately sixty yachts berthed at the city quays climaxing in a parade of sail.

The Belgian navy arrived for the Whit Weekend and their French neighbours sent a vessel and their Naval Pipe Band, Bagad de Lan Bihoue, to entertain audiences in Cork. The 35 piece French Navy Pipe Band, which originates from Brittany, France delighted Cork audiences with the sounds of their Celtic heritage. Free performances were given on board Brittany Ferries and at various locations in the city centre and surrounding area.

The German Navy Brass band thrilled crowds of shoppers and tourists around the city in September.

Four Irish naval ships berthed in October. The ships participating will be the L. E. Eithne, Emer, R is n, and Orla. This was the first time a ship of each class in the Naval Service fleet were collectively open to the public for the first time outside the Naval Base. Guided tours, demonstrating the capabilities of each ship and the progression of equipment and facilities from the oldest to the newest ship in the fleet.
