Project Description:
The Guiness Jazz Festival in 2005, with additional funding from Cork 2005, featured some of the European masters of contemporary jazz. It presented a selection of the best European jazz artists and highlighted the changing face of contemporary jazz as it embraces European folk, ethnic and medieval music styles.

Intensely moving musical portraits of the Mediterranean were on the musical menu from stunning all-star group, Enrico Pieranunzi Trio, headed by Italy's greatest jazz pianist.

The world famous duo, Terje Rypdal and Ketil Bjornstad from Norway, took audiences to the outer edge of European jazz, blurring the boundaries between composition and improvisation. Their performance was one of the major attractions in the special Cork 2005 line-up.

Two of Scotland's greatest musicians, Tommy Smith & Brian Kellock, teamed up to deliver a bewitching contemporary jazz programme full of sheer artistry and spontaneous invention.

The Bosko Petrovic Quartet, one of Central Europe's best groups, headed by Croatia's legendary jazz composer/producer/performer, was also in town with a band full of swinging jazz of the highest calibre.
