Project Description:
The Cork International Folk Dance Festival, celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2005, presented its largest festival to date.

In 2005 the festival staged international groups from as far afield as Brittany, Cornwall, Croatia, Denmark, Germany, Lithuania, Poland, Sardinia, Sicily, Scotland, Holland and The Philippines. Visiting Irish groups including Siamsa Tire from Tralee, Co. Kerry and Gleann na Rí from Co. Kildare.

There was also a heavy local involvement with groups such as the Owenabue Valley Traditional Group, Comhaltas groups from Newcestown, Nadd, Douglas and Bantry Imokilly Dancers, Cowhie Ryan Dancers, Cork Irish Dance Company, Ceolta Sí, and Pipe Bands from Bandon, Carrigaline, Cobh and Youghal participating in the Festival.

The festival highlight was undoubtedly the free open-air performance on Patrick Street on Saturday 20 of August, involving all of the dance groups, some 720 performers from 13 countries.
