New Dawn, New Beat

The spectacular send-off to Cork’s year as European Capital of Culture began with New Beat - a musical extravaganza at City Hall featuring professional and community percussionists and other musicians.

Cork 2005 commissioned Belfast born Noel Eccles, of ‘Riverdance’ and Moving Hearts fame, to write a work for a team of classical percussionists and community groups from all over the city. ‘New Dawn, New Beat’, which is produced by RTÉ Lyric FM’s Evelyn Grant, also featured the Boomerang Theatre Company and members of the Cork Youth Orchestra.
