Project Description:
C2, was the opening exhibition of Cork 2005. The exhibition, of over 150 artists, celebrated the diversity and quality of contemporary visual arts practice by artists born in, resident in, or closely associated with Cork city and county.
This ambitious exhibition included paintings, drawings, prints and sculptures, digital and other new media and was the first temporary exhibition to be installed in all the galleries of the Crawford Gallery. Each work selected was representative of the artist’s output and the ambitious scale of the exhibition was a reflection of the high concentration of artistic practice that is ever present in Cork city and Cork county.
C2 provided a platform for all fields and layers of Cork contemporary art practice and also recognised the support given to Crawford Municipal Art Gallery in recent years by many of the participating artists. Artists featured include Dorothy Cross, Linda Quinlan, Fergus Martin, Cormac O’Leary, Michael Quane, and Vivienne Roche. Two large installations by Maud Cotter and Mark Kent also featured.
An extensive catalogue of C2 was published to coincide with the exhibition. The exhibition was curated by Peter Murray, director; Anne Boddaert, assistant curator and Dawn Williams, assistant curator of the Crawford Municipal Art Gallery.
