Project Description:
Cork City Council in conjunction with the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland (RIAI) held an Architectural Design Ideas Competition for a prominent group of sites on Kyrls Quay in Cork. In January 2005 the City Council invited architects, urban designers and landscape architects to submit ideas to revamp this historic block of waterside properties fronting onto Kyrls Quay. Over 80 entries were received from around the world including Ireland, UK, Italy, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, USA, Japan, and Australia and were considered by an International Assessment Panel.

The winning entry was submitted by Conroy Architecture. The winners, partners Bobby Conroy and Patrick Little were presented with an award at the launch of an exhibition of the prize-winners entries and a number of other entries selected for display by the assessors held at the Bodega Bar, Cornmarket Street. Runners up were also awarded prizes.

Art Box
Submission Deadline: 9 December 2005
Cork City Council and the RIAI with the support of the Arts Council of Ireland organised an architectural design competition for Cork to promote high quality design in the environment of Cork city and specifically within the arts sector. Design ideas were sought for an "Art Box" mobile exhibition/ performance space, owned by the City Council and accessed by artists who wish to exhibit and/or work outside of the context of the existing permanent infrastructure.

Over 70 were received. The winning entry was submitted by Peter Feeney Artchitects & 3P.Urban.Process, London.
